This sermon focuses on love of children. The wellbeing of children provides common ground across many barriers. Regardless of race, or nationality, or religion – the care and nurture of children serves as a bridgebuilder. In her book, Holy Envy: Finding God in the Faith of Others, Barbara Brown Taylor makes the point that understanding and appreciating differences between various groupings of people may be one of the greatest gifts we can offer children – so they might be liberated from the blinders that all cultures create.
It explains that the pioneer and perfector of our faith, Jesus Christ, was keenly aware of the value of children and the essential qualities they embody: seeing the world with child-like simplicity and wonder.
