Lent is a six-week liturgical season in the life of the church. Week 1 is on February 26th and concludes with Palm Sunday/Passion Sunday (April 2). Lent is a season of preparation for the celebration of Easter. This year we will be drawing from a worship resource called “A Sanctified Art”. This resource includes images, art work, devotional booklets and cards, and Sunday morning scripture readings and prayers.
Feeling stuck or depressed, navigating a failing marriage or working a job you hate, living with illness or chronic pain—these are all valleys of dry bones. In these spaces, we pray for God’s breath to rattle us toward becoming whole. On this fifth Sunday of Lent, the story of Lazarus reminds us of the wilderness of grief, as Martha’s response to her brother’s death captures the way we, too, might protest death, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”
